In Genesis, the Bible gives two distinct and varied stories of creation of man and the animals. The first story is found in the first chapter of Genesis (Gen. 1: 20-23, 24-28) where, on the fifth and sixth days of creation God creates the creatures that fly (and that live in the water) and land animals and then man. The second creation story is found in the second chapter of Genesis where, following the Sabbath day, God creates man, the animals of the field and those that fly, and then woman (Gen. 2: 7-8, 18-24). It is often assumed that the second story is a repeat of the original but with added detail. By comparing the two creation stories, it can be shown that either they contradict one another or they are two different creations. By showing how the two stories work together to show their prophetic fulfillment in Christ, it can be proven they are indeed two different and non-contradictory creation events. If Christ as the prophesied Messiah is to be fully understood, then it is important to understand both creation events, as they are and not as they are believed to be.
